Production wraps on Michael Flatley's big screen spy thriller, expected this autumn

PRODUCTION has finished on Michael Flatley’s big screen directorial debut Blackbird, with the film expected to hit cinemas in the autumn.

The famed Irish dancer also stars in the movie, which will be his first feature-length project, having previously worked on two short films.

In the film, the Irish Post Award winner plays a former intelligence operative who has retired to Barbados.

However he is thrust back into the world of espionage when an infamous arms dealer, played by Oscar nominee Eric Roberts, appears on the island.

The cast also features Irish actors Patrick Bergin – who starred in Sleeping With the Enemy with Julia Roberts – and Ian Beattie, who played Meryn Trant in Game of Thrones.

The film was shot in Barbados, England and Ireland.

According to IFTN.ie, the project is being produced by Richard Bolger of Irish-based Five Knight Films, whose recent credits include Irish box office hit Cardboard Gangsters.

Other production companies such as West One Entertainment, Parachute Films, and Dancelord Pictures are also involved.

Flatley rose to fame as the star and original choreographer of Riverdance before creating the wildly successful dance show, Lord of the Dance.
