Always Sunny in Philadelphia stars launch Irish whiskey to help hospitality workers

THE STARS of the hit comedy series It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia have launched a premium Irish whiskey, with all profits going to help hospitality workers.

Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day launched two versions of their Four Walls whiskey this week, with the tagline ‘The Better Brown’.

With much of the action in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia taking place in Paddy's Pub, the name of the whiskey is a nod to the four walls of the bar the gang call home.

The whiskey is a celebration of the show's record-breaking 15th season, while all profits will go to organisations that help the bartending community, with hospitality being hit hard during the Covid-19 pandemic.

'Tribute'

"We wanted to create a brand celebrating the four walls that have held our favourite memories in and kept our troubles out," Howerton said in a news release.

McElhenney added: "We were shooting Season 15 when bars were shutting down all across America.

"So we decided to source some really great whiskeys and create something as a tribute to the bar and kick it off by giving back."

The first of the two whiskeys is a 15-year-old Irish whiskey to mark the 15th season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Selling for $999, only 755 bottles of the single malt, cask strength whiskey will be produced.

This collector's edition will be packaged in an engraved wooden and mirrored box and includes autographed cards from the stars.

The second version is a five-year-old triple distilled Irish whiskey blended with Pennsylvania rye.

This limited-edition bartender's blend is priced at $89 and is limited to 2,500 bottles.

The gang worked with the Cooley and Great Northern distilleries in Ireland and Wigle Whiskey in Pennsylvania to produce the products.

The Gang Go To Ireland

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia sees Dennis (Howerton), Mac (McElhenney) and Charlie (Day) run Paddy's Pub, one of South Philadelphia's most notorious Irish bars.

Completing the gang at Paddy's are Dennis' sister Dee (Kaitlin Olson) and their father Frank (Danny DeVito).

With the broadcast of the show's 15 season in December 2021, it became the longest-running live-action sitcom in US TV history.

The latest season sees the gang heading to Ireland, although Covid-19 quarantine regulations scuppered plans to film on location in the Emerald Isle.

First airing in August 2005, the show has already been commissioned for a further three seasons.

For the time being, Four Walls is only shipping to the United States.
