Irish soldier killed at English barracks to be laid to rest

A NORTHERN Irish soldier killed at an Army base in Shropshire will be buried tomorrow with full military honours.

A murder investigation has been launched after the discovery of the body of Royal Irish Regiment soldier Corporal Geoffrey McNeill.

The 32-year-old from Ballymoney, Co Antrim, was found dead  in an accommodation block at Clive Barracks at Tern Hill barracks, near Market Drayton, last month.

No details regarding the circumstances of his death have been released.

Another soldier, Lance Corporal Richard Farrell (23), has appeared before Wolverhampton Crown accused of killing Mr McNeill.

The 23-year-old is understood to have been arrested shortly after the body of Corporal McNeill – who was in the same battalion as Farrell – was discovered.

The corporal's funeral will take place at Ballywillan Presbyterian Church in Portrush.
