Irish woman fined £150 for stripping at security at Stansted Airport

AN Irish passenger has been fined after she began undressing while being delayed at security checks at Stansted Airport.

Eimear Ni Ghiallgairrh, 29, from Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, was travelling to Barcelona on Thursday, January 21 for a job interview when the incident took place.

The architect arrived at the airport 90 minutes before her flight, but when security staff told her that she could be concealing a forbidden item as she went through the body scanner, she took off her skirt.

Ni Ghiallgairrh was arrested by police after she undressed in front of other passengers.

She claimed she stripped out of frustration, to prove that she did not have any prohibited items in her possession.

In the process of being arrested and escorted to an on-site police station she broke her thumb. She was held for 15 hours and then released.

Ni Ghiallgairrh was fined £80 after pleading guilty to disorderly behaviour and criminal damage at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 18.

She was ordered to pay another £70 in costs.
