No coronavirus deaths in Northern Ireland for two days in a row

NORTHERN IRELAND has reported its second consecutive day with no Covid-19 deaths.

The six northern counties hit the positive milestone today, after four days in a row last week with no deaths ended with the sad passing of one person on Friday and two people on Saturday.

Yesterday, Sunday 14 June, Northern Ireland's Department of Health confirmed there had been no coronavirus-related deaths in a 24 hour period.

Today, Monday 15 June, the good news continued, with no confirmed coronavirus deaths and just four more positive cases of the virus.

A total of 541 people in Northern Ireland are reported to have passed away with the virus since the pandemic began, and there are 4,852 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Fermanagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Derry, Armagh and Down.

However, a recent report from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) which counts all fatalities where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate, put the figure at 779 by 5 June.

Updated data from the Department of Health has revealed that there are just five Covid-19 patients in intensive care across the whole of Northern Ireland, with four on ventilation support.

Last week, as Northern Ireland recorded its third day in a row with no coronavirus-related deaths, Health Minister Robin Swann quoted the Bible in warning "Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring."

In the Republic of Ireland, yesterday's figures showed a consistent drop, with just one person sadly passing away from the disease, and eight new confirmed cases.
