Three men sought after shots fired at garda patrol car

GARDAÍ are investigating after a gunman opened fire on a garda patrol car in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident happened in the Rossfield Avenue area of Tallaght in Dublin.

No gardaí were injured however one of the bullets struck the vehicle.

The incident happened at around 2.30am when unarmed uniform gardaí travelling in a marked garda patrol car came across three men, one in possession of a handgun and one in possession of a baseball bat.

“The male armed with the handgun discharged a number of shots towards the garda patrol car,” said a spokesperson.

“One of these shots struck the vehicle. All three men then fled the scene. No Gardaí were injured during this incident.

"No arrests have been made in connection with this incident. Investigations are ongoing.”

A technical examination is being carried out.
