Tragedy as 52-year-old man dies after appalling knife attack in Dublin

A TEENAGER has been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in Dublin last night.

The 52-year-old victim received serious stab wounds after an attack at Buirg an Ri Walk in Balgaddy, west Dublin at around 10.20pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A 19-year-old man was arrested shortly after midnight and taken to Ronanstown Garda Station for questioning.

He remains in custody today under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

In a statement, Gardaí said: "Gardai at Lucan, Co Dublin are investigating a fatal stabbing which occurred at Buirg an Ri Walk, Balgaddy, Co Dublin at approximately 10.20pm last night, Wednesday 7 February 2018.

"A 52-year-old male received serious stab wounds and was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.”

The scene of the fatal attack remains sealed off to allow for a forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The local coroner has been notified of the man’s death and a post-mortem is scheduled to take place today.
