THE WOMAN who was shot and killed during a riot inside the Capitol Building on Wednesday has been named locally as 35-year-old Ashli Babbitt from San Diego, California.

Her husband paid tribute to her following her death, describing her as a "great patriot", while speaking to kusi.com.

Babbitt's husband said she was a 14-year-old veteran who served four tours with the United States Air Force (USAF) as a "high level security official".

She was a huge supporter of Donald Trump, and "a great patriot to all who knew her".

Mrs Babbitt was shot and killed by a member of Capitol security as Trump fans protesting the result of the election attempted to storm the building to ensure that Congress didn't certify Joe Biden's victory.

Harrowing footage has emerged online of the moment Mrs Babbitt was shot as she attempted to clamber through a broken window.

In the video, the riot raged at the top of a staircase inside the Capitol Building, while chairs and tables can be seen stacked up on the other side, acting as a barricade for those further inside, separating them from the riot.

As Mrs Babbitt can be seen attempting to climb through the window, one of the rioters can be heard shouting "he's got a gun," just seconds before the 35-year-old is shot in the neck and falls back down to the ground.

Blood can be seen coming from her mouth as more security arrive to secure the hallway, telling the rioters to get to the ground.
