Five men arrested after armed robbers with 'sawn-off shotgun' raid Irish Post Office

FIVE men have been arrested by Gardaí after armed raiders robbed a Post Office in Waterford.

The horrifying incident occurred in Cleaboy this morning at approximately 11.10am.

Gardaí confirmed that three masked men entered the Post Office and demanded money while threatening staff.

One of the men was armed with a sawn-off shotgun, they said.

The trio then left the scene with a considerable sum of money and made their getaway in a car.

The vehicle was found burnt out a short time later.

Gardaí later arrested five men as part of follow-up searches and brought them to Waterford Garda Station for questioning.

They remain in custody this afternoon under the provisions of Section 30 – Offences Against the State Act 1939.

A Garda spokesman said the scene of the incident has been preserved and investigations are ongoing.
