Two teens critical after getting into difficulty swimming in disused quarry

TWO teenagers are reportedly in a critical condition after getting into difficulty while swimming in a disused quarry in Co. Clare.

The two boys were airlifted to hospital after the alarm was raised at 3.30pm.

The two were believed to be part of a group of five or six youths swimming at the quarry on the Tullagh Road near Ennis.

Emergency services and the Coast Guard were involved in the rescue.

The pair were located and brought ashore where they were treated by paramedics, before the Shannon Coast Guard helicopter transferred them to Limerick University Hospital.

The two boys are understood to be in a critical condition.
