Taoiseach proposes London event during President Higgins' state visit

PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins’ official state visit to Britain in April will include an event in London to reflect cultural ties, according to Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

His visit will take place between April 8-10 and he will be joined by his wife Sabina.

Mr Kenny addressed a Dáil committee and said that as far as he was aware the proposed event will be supported by the Culture Ireland organisation.

He added that it would provide an opportunity for the large Irish community in Britain to participate in the visit and to reflect on their significant contribution to the life of Britain and Ireland.

When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II visited Ireland a concert was held in Dublin.

The Taoiseach did not provide details of the planned event, however, reference made to the scale of the event suggests that a concert may be staged in a huge venue such as The Royal Albert Hall.
